The port of Braila has one road situated as follows:
Zone: KM 166 + 500 - km 175
Arrival
KM 168 + 500 upstream from Sulina.
Ballast
Pumping out of ballast and dirty water is not allowed.
Cargo Handling Facilities
At berths 34-38 there are 10 shore cranes of 5-16 t (dock basin).
At berth 46, vertical quay and 2 shore cranes of 5 t.
At berth 27, two floating cranes of 16 t
At berth 24, vertical quay with 2 shore cranes of 5 t.
At berth 20, loading/discharging by ships gear (direct to the Danube River).
At berth "Bai" KM 171, in anchorage direct
transhipment for loading/discharging.

Metalurgical products: 700-1000 t /day

General cargo in bags: 400-600 t/day

Communication
Nearest Airport is in Bucharest which is 200 km. Port is connected to
the national rail network.
Customs
Braila is a inland waterway port the last port upstream for operating
maritime vessels and have all harbour functions as emigration, harbour
master and customs authorities. For vessels incoming from the Black Sea
to upstream ports, preliminary procedures should be fulfilled in SULINA,
port of entry in SULINA channel.
The customs procedures for ship's operations should
be fulfilled in destination port also in order to obtain CLEARANCE. There
is only one exception: the vessels coming on CHILIA branch from UKRAINE
and stopping directly in BRAILA port. There are no special customs regulations
that should be observed but agent must be informed within 24 hrs before
arrival in order to obtain operations custom permit.

After the vessel
has completed shifting to berth at the wharf, she is boarded by the Sanitary
Commission (for the sanitary inspection of crew as well as for veterinary
and phitosanitary inspection). After the vessel has effected the sanitary
inspection, she is boarded by the Control Commission. The Master fills
in a form of declaration in 4 copies which together with the cargo paln,
manifest of goods, sanitary certificates, etc., is handed to the representative
of the Agency.
Within max. 12 hours after performing arrival formalities, the Master
or Chief Mate fills in the questionnaire Declaration in the Harbour Master's
Office and the following documents will be tendered until sailing of the
vessel:
- Load Line Certificate
Tonnage Certificate
Certificate of Nationality
Safety Equipment Certificate
Construction Certificate
Safety Radio Certificate.
Note:
Crew lists and passenger list must be issued in several copies (about
10 pcs). If the vessel is staying more than 12 hours in the port, provision
lists, crew personal goods list and bonded goods lists should be issued.
Entrance
The river which is entered at Sulina has a width of 450-900 m with depths
of 13-25 m.
ETA
Agents and port authorities should be kept well informed about the vessels
estimated time of arrival.
Fire Fighting Tugs
Two fire fighting tugs are available.
Garbage Removal
Garbage is collected via residual tanker
every 2 days in summer and every 3 days in winter and every three days
by Port Administration Maritime Danube (A.P.D.M.)

The port has one sector:
- Commercial Port KM 168+500 - km 175
The "Basin" berths
34-38 total length of 500 m, cargo general operating.
31-32 total length of 200 m, dischar. cargo stone and gravel from river
ships.
- Danube Berths
46, 41, 27, 24, 23, 22, 20 total length of 760 m, general cargo and
cereal.
17-18 total length of 200 m, passenger ships.
- Berth Bai, KM 171 in anchorage direct tranship
for loading/discharging bulk cargo.
Health and Medical
Sanitary Inspection: Immediately upon berthing,
the Sanitary Commission checks the ports of call during the voyage, the
nature of the cargo, the number of crew and passengers, the port of destination,
the state of health of the crew, particularly regarding any disease, vaccinations
etc. Medical assistance available on request
at the city hospital.
Ice
Possible ice patches in leeway from January to March - depending of the
general wheather in middle Europe.
Lighters
Possible upon request, with floating cranes of 5 - 16 t capacity into
barges.
Pilotage
Pilotage is compulsory and available during daylight hours only. Pilotage
can be arranged trough the Agent.

Supplies
Fresh water available direct from quay installations at a rate of 50 t/24
h for vessels up to 8750 dwt. Bunker available
at bunker station. Fresh provisions are plentiful.
Watchmen
It is recommended to hire deck watchmen or specialised tallyman when special
general goods are operated. Although, employment of watchmen or tallyman
is not compulsory.
