Anchorage

The Mangalia road has dimensions of 1 bt 1 Nm, being limited to the N and S by the parallels 43 deg. 49'2''N and 43 deg. 48'2''N and to the E and W by the meridians 27 deg. 39'2''E and 28 deg. 37'8''E.

Cargo Handling Facilities
The port is equipped with 5 t electric cranes and various mobile cranes and forklifts. Generally, during operation, port cranes are used but all vessels must have their loading/discharging gear in good condition.
There are four (4) shore cranes with lifting capacity of 6 tons. There is 4,300 m2 of covered warehouses.

After the vessel has completed shifting to berth at the wharf, she is boarded by the Sanitary Commission (for the sanitary inspection of crew as well as for veterinary and phitosanitary inspection). After the vessel has effected the sanitary inspection, she is boarded by the Control Commission. The Master fills in a form of declaration in 4 copies which together with the cargo plan, manifest of goods, sanitary certificates, etc., is handed to the representative of the Agency.
Within max. 12 hours after performing arrival formalities, the Master or Chief Mate fills in the questionnaire Declaration in the Harbour Master's Office and the following documents will be tendered until sailing of the vessel:

  • Radiotelegraph equipment certificate
    Safety construction certificate
    Ship's register

Note: Crew lists and passenger list must be issued in several copies (about 10 pcs). If the vessel is staying more than 12 hours in the port, provision lists, crew personal goods lists and bonded goods lists should be issued. After Sanitary Inspection and Control Commission is on board.

Entrance
The entrance is 200 m wide and has a depth of 10.0 m.

Agents and port authorities should be kept well informed about the vessels estimated time of arrival.

Harbour
The port is formed by 4 breakwaters of 3.78 km total length. The harbour basin has an area of 80 ha with two berths each 200 m long, with 9.0 m depth alongside.

A new sea port has recently become operational, formed by two breakwaters of 1.53 km and 2 km long, enclosing a basin of 300 ha. Piers of 400 m in length allow deep draft vessels to berth.

Health and Medical
Sanitary Inspection: Immediately upon berthing, the Sanitary Commission checks the ports of call during the voyage, the nature of the cargo, the number of crew and passengers, the port of destination, the state of health of the crew, particularly regarding any disease, vaccinatons etc.
Medical assistance available at the city hospital.

Pilotage
Compulsory for all vessels. From the N end of the SE breakwater over a distance of 8.5 cables to the S, there are depths of less than 3.0 m, so care must be taken.

Supplies
Bunkers can be supplied via truck and barge. Fresh water available via wharf, truck and barge. Provision can be supplied.

Towage
Compulsory for vessels over 1,000 GRT. Tugs available up to 2000 HP.
Towage in the road and the port is performed by the Port Administration based on the Towage Contact form, distributed to the vessel by Agents. Towage services in the road and in the port are performed continuously, 24 hours daily. Tugs are fitted with VHF radio-telephones (channels 11 and 13) and radars. Towage tarfiffs are set up subject to the tug's power, vessels GRT and towage (assistance ) time.
